Week 52: What Matters Most

Not that there was any doubt, but one thing COVID-19 has shown us is that farming is essential. During this time, we consider ourselves so blessed to be able to work hard every day, in the open air with our close-knit staff and family, with the mission of putting food on your tables. But while we are farming away every day, our hearts go out deeply to all those who have been affected by this pandemic, whether by illness or suffering; loss of loved ones or loss of livelihood. There is a lot of uncertainty and a lot of raw emotion in the world right now, and to it all we can offer nothing but compassion, empathy, and food. We are fortunate to be in a place where that is the support we can offer.

Not that it's been an easy Spring for us-- we have been plenty busy with all the usual work, plus adapting to new protocols and systems and growing in a challenging growing season, all without any childcare at all. Unusual weather patterns lead to our first 100% killing summer vegetable frost in my nearly 20 year farming career. It took us just a minute to rebound from that  and re-plant, thanks to our amazing farm community that we fell back on. But the unpredictable patterns keep us on our toes and the workload is high. This email is both a welcome to our new CSA members who will be starting next week, as well as a farewell to the members that are ending their time with us this week. We thank all of you, and consider ourselves lucky to have you in our lives. This feels like a great time to be growing our membership to the largest it's ever been- 105 shares- to help spread the bounty of nutrient-dense, immune-supporting, pesticide-free foods to the best of our abilities. New members, we have a lot of good food for you this year, so we hope you are ready! This is also a time where many people are turning towards local resilience, self-sufficiency, short supply chains, and living with less. This comes in response to COVID's exposure of an overwhelming global supply and economic structure. While we have enough humility to know we're not changing the world, we do feel proud that we can help you and your families live a little closer to your sources. During this time, we encourage you to visit areas of your lifestyle (both food and otherwise) and explore ways in which you can simplify things and still maximize your fulfillment and nourishment. Wishing everyone health, happiness, and abundance of what's important during these difficult times! Many thanks to you all, Rob, Mo, Wes, and Willa Moutoux
